History & significance

A Mahayana temple built inside a limestone cave at Ipoh, taken as a meditation hermitage in 1890 by a monk from China who lived there until his death and kept up by monks and nuns after him; the present temple buildings date from the 1950s, and the cave paintings blend Buddhist, Taoist and Hindu imagery.
