History & significance

The shrine to Sarada Devi on Sivagiri hill, founded by the social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, whose foundation was laid in 1909 and consecration completed in 1912. Its octagonal plan with windows and ventilation broke with tantric temple convention, and worship there is by hymn rather than by food offering or ritual anointment.
