A Vaishnavite temple to Sita at Seetha Eliya near Nuwara Eliya, grown from a simple site where unshaped stones stood for the deities into a full temple built by South Indian Tamil plantation workers, who still maintain it. It is a principal stop on Sri Lanka's Ramayana pilgrimage circuit and has been promoted by Ramayana advocacy groups in India.
The Ramayana places Sita's captivity under Ravana at this spot and holds that Hanuman found her here and gave her Rama's ring as a token of hope.
