A white peace pagoda above Chanspa in Leh, begun in 1983 under the Japanese monk Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura and finished in 1991, with relics of the Buddha installed at its base by the 14th Dalai Lama, who inaugurated the foundation in 1985. Built by the Ladakh Shanti Stupa Committee with Japanese and Indian support and the backing of Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, it departs deliberately from traditional Ladakhi form.
