Nepal's first World Peace Pagoda, a white stupa 115 feet high on Anadu hill at 1,100 m above Pokhara, built by the Nipponzan-Myohoji monk Morioka Sonin with local supporters including Dharmashilla Guruma and Min Bahadur Gurung. Nichidatsu Fujii laid the foundation stone in September 1973; work was obstructed for eighteen years and builders were repeatedly arrested, until the stone was re-laid in 1992 by prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala and the stupa was completed in October 1999.
