The living Digambara temple in eastern Khajuraho, whose nucleus is Chandella work of the 11th century — the pedestal of the main image is inscribed Samvat 1085 (1027-28 CE) — enclosed in a courtyard rebuilt around 1870 by Kanchhedtilal Jain of Nagaur. A 4.3 m Shantinatha stands in the central shrine, surrounded by all twenty-four tirthankaras and eighteen further shrines holding sculpture spanning ten centuries; it falls within the Khajuraho World Heritage Site.
