A Shiva temple in Umerkot whose lingam is the focus of a three-day Maha Shivaratri fair drawing around 250,000 pilgrims from across Sindh, among the largest religious gatherings in Pakistan. The present building was put up roughly a century ago by a local Muslim, a shrine of Durga stands behind the main temple, and the site is managed by the Pakistan Hindu Panchayat.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
Local tradition holds that the spot was discovered when a cowherd saw one of his cows pouring her milk over a lingam there.
