Founded by Kuala Lumpur's Ceylon Tamil community, which met to establish it in 1890, bought the Jalan Scott land in 1901 and held the first Maha Kumbabhishekam in February 1909; the temple maintains Saiva Siddhanta practice and was modelled on the Nallur Kandaswamy temple in Jaffna.
