Medan's oldest Hindu temple, raised in 1884 in the Kampung Madras quarter by Tamil labourers brought to the plantations of North Sumatra, and rededicated for Hindu Dharma worship in 1991; its gopuram makes it the focus of Thaipusam and Deepavali in the city.
