Built at Tank Road in 1859 by Singapore's Chettiar community and still run by the Chettiars' Temple Society, the Murugan temple was wholly reconstructed at a cost of S$3.3 million and reconsecrated in November 1983, renovated again in 2022, and gazetted as Singapore's 67th national monument in 2014; its Thaipusam observances draw devotees carrying kavadi and milk pots.
