A Little India temple to the fierce form of Kali, begun as a shrine by Bengali labourers in 1855 and built as a temple in 1881, following South Indian Tamil rather than northeastern Indian conventions; during the Japanese occupation it sheltered and fed more than twenty destitute people a night through the air raids.
