History & significance

A modern shrine of the Suryavamshi Kshatriya Are-Katika community whose foundation was laid in February 2002 and whose consecration followed in February 2003; its annual celebrations draw an estimated 15,000-20,000 pilgrims.

Sthala katha — the legend

Sunama Jakini is remembered as a devout woman buried alive on the order of her intoxicated husband around 1803 and venerated as a goddess thereafter.
