One of the best known of the old Shiva temples that earned Jaipur the name Chhoti Kashi, dated to about 1727 and believed to have been laid out by the city's planner Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. Its priesthood was entrusted to Vyas family priests brought from Amer, and Mahashivaratri and the Mondays of Shravan draw the largest crowds.

After a fight between a lion and a goat on the spot, a voice is said to have risen from the ground; digging there uncovered the self-manifested Shivalinga now worshipped in the temple.
