History & significance

ISKCON's flagship temple at Mayapur, under construction since 2009 and chaired by Alfred Ford, built around a planetarium presenting Vedic cosmology and intended to serve as the movement's global headquarters.

Sthala katha — the traditional account

What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.

Bhaktivinoda Thakur identified this spot in 1894 as the true birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
