A large stupa in Myanmar's purpose-built capital Naypyidaw, begun in November 2006 and consecrated in March 2009 under Than Shwe of the ruling State Peace and Development Council. Built as a near same-sized replica of the Shwedagon Pagoda, it enshrines a Buddha tooth relic and houses four jade Buddha images.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
Its name, meaning protection against calamity, comes from a sutta composed by a monk in the early 16th century and recited in times of crisis, above all in the face of foreign invasion.
