A north-facing goddess temple with four gopurams that served as the family shrine of the medieval Zamorins of Kozhikode. Worship follows the Saktheya tradition under Pidarar Brahmin priests, with hereditary rights held by five Moosad families, and the annual festival runs seven days from Karthika in Makaram.

The Zamorin is said to have done penance until Bhagavathy appeared and agreed to follow him to his kingdom; when he looked back on the way she halted and flung her bangle, which spun for a week before falling where the temple now stands.
