After Sati burned herself at Daksha's sacrifice, Shiva is said to have brought forth Veerabhadra and Bhadrakali; Veerabhadra beheaded Daksha and danced the Rudra Tandava here until sage Agastya calmed him and Shiva settled as a linga at the spot.
