The chief Hindu pilgrimage centre of the Andamans, begun in 1926 for the Tamil staff of the British administration on Ross Island and completed there by 1932, then shifted to Port Blair after independence. A Murugan shrine was added as the temple grew, and it is now the focus of the islands' Hindu festivals.
