One of the oldest surviving Jain temples in the Kongu country, founded in 678 CE by the Velir king Konguvelir at Vijayamangalam in Erode district. Also called the Chandraprabha Tirthankarar temple, it is dedicated to Chandraprabha, the eighth Tirthankara.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
Local tradition recalls a Tamil assembly convened here when Konguvelir composed the epic Perunkathai, his maidservant helping him answer the scholars' questions — an episode later commemorated by images installed at the temple.
