Commissioned by King Chulalongkorn in 1899 next to his new Dusit Palace and finished in 1911, this royal monastery was designed by Prince Narisara Nuwattiwong and faced in imported Carrara marble, giving it its popular name, the Marble Temple. Its cruciform ordination hall holds a Sukhothai-style principal Buddha cast from melted brass cannon, beneath which the king's ashes are interred, and a surrounding gallery displays 52 Buddha images in differing postures.
