History & significance
A small temple beside the Qutb complex in Mehrauli, held to be the only shrine of pre-sultanate origin in Delhi still in worship. It is the Hindu focus of the city's interfaith Phool Walon Ki Sair procession.
Sthala katha — the traditional account
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
Yogmaya is said to have taken the place of the infant Krishna when Kansa tried to kill him, slipping from his grasp to foretell his death.
