The principal Shaiva temple of Mukhalingam, the town that served as Kalinganagari, capital of the Eastern Gangas, and built under Kamarnava Deva II around the turn of the 9th century. Two further Shaiva temples stand in the village, the latest dating to the early 11th century, and the group was renovated by the Maharaja of Paralakhemundi in the 17th century.
