A cluster of nine shrines with shikharas raised in the ninth century under the Rashtrakuta kings Amoghavarsha I or Krishna II, built in poor sandstone but richly carved and now much weathered. Old Kannada inscriptions on the site, dated between 1005 and 1186, record grants to shrines of several goddesses and to Mallikarjuna; lintels over the entrances carry Gajalakshmi.
