One of three Vishnu temples at Manimangalam near Tambaram, carrying inscriptions from 1056 CE in which Rajendra Chola I names it Kamakoti-Vinnagar and Thiruvaykulam. The settlement itself is recorded far earlier as the site of a battle between the Chalukya ruler Pulakesin II and the Pallava king Narasimhavarman I.
