A Murugan temple west of Tiruchirappalli, about twelve centuries old and built in the medieval Chola period; it is associated with the 15th-century poet Arunagirinathar and with the modern expounder Kirupanandha Variyar, and is administered by the Tamil Nadu HR&CE department.
The temple tank, called Agni or Shakthi Theertham, is said to have been opened by Murugan himself with his lance.
