History & significance

A Vishnu temple at Rajamadam in Thanjavur district built by the Thanjavur Maratha ruler Serfoji II, who also founded the village of Rajamadam around it.

Sthala katha — the legend

The king, who had long prayed for an heir, is said to have been visited by the deity in a dream and granted a son, and raised the temple in thanks.
