The foremost Digambara Jain pilgrimage centre of Rajasthan, built in the seventeenth century by the merchant Amar Chand Bilala around an image of Mahavira said to be more than a thousand years old. Other Tirthankara images are also enshrined, and the temple draws millions of pilgrims a year.
A Meena dairy farmer named Krapa Ram is said to have found his cow spilling her milk over a mound near Chandanpur; when the villagers dug there they uncovered the image of Mahavira around which the temple grew.
