History & significance

Marks the place in Chandni Chowk where the ninth Guru, Tegh Bahadur, was beheaded on Aurangzeb's orders on 11 November 1675. Baghel Singh of the Karora Misl negotiated with Shah Alam II to build the first shrine here in 1783; after litigation under British rule was settled in the Sikhs' favour, the present building was raised in 1930 by Rai Bahadur Narain Singh.
