History & significance
One of the eight Ashtavinayaka shrines, believed to house a self-existent image; it was renovated by Chimaji Appa after his capture of Vasai Fort and again in 1967.

Ganesha subdued the demon Vignasura, sent by Indra to wreck a king's sacrifice, and at the demon's request took the title Vigneshwara.
