The chief Buddhist stupa of northeastern Thailand, standing near the Mekong in That Phanom district and enshrining what tradition holds to be the Buddha's breast bone; archaeology dates the earliest structure on the site to the 7th or 8th century, and the pagoda has been restored in modern times with royal Thai patronage.

The That Phanom Chronicle says the Buddha asked Mahakasyapa to carry his breast-bone relic to Phu Kamphra after his death, and that the disciple with five hundred arhats raised the stupa over it there.
