An ashram at Jagban village in Madhubani district, Mithila, traditionally dated to the 8th-7th centuries BCE and associated with the Vedic sage Yajnavalkya, to whom the Shukla Yajurveda, the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad and the Yajnavalkya Smriti are ascribed. The site's temple is the Shree Yogeshwar Yajnavalkya Mandir.
Yajnavalkya is said to have won back the lost Yajurveda by penance to the Sun god, who appeared as a mass of light and imparted the knowledge with Saraswati's help.
