A high mountain shrine of Chamunda Devi above Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, reckoned at least as old as the palace ruins of about 1660 beside it. Long derelict, it was restored from 1992 largely through two decades of work by the retired officer P. D. Saini, destroyed by fire in 2014 and rebuilt.
The goddess is said to have killed the demons Chanda and Munda by hurling great boulders down on them from the mountain top, and to take her name from them.
