History & significance

One of the eleven Thirunangur Divya Desams near Sirkazhi, where Vishnu is worshipped as the pot-dancing Kudamudakoothan.

Sthala katha — the traditional account

What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.

When Shiva's grief-stricken dance threatened the worlds, Vishnu is said to have appeared at Nangur in eleven forms to calm him - this shrine marks one of them.
