History & significance

One of the eleven Divya Desams clustered at Thirunangur near Sirkazhi, closely associated with Thirumangai Alvar, where Krishna is worshipped as Gopalakrishnan with Rukmini and Satyabhama.

Sthala katha — the legend

Krishna and Satyabhama are said to have kept a garden at this spot, where the god once saved an elephant - the kavalam of its name.
