A Shiva shrine on the girivalam path around Arunachala, held to be older than the great Annamalaiyar temple in Tiruvannamalai town. It is counted among the Vaippu Sthalams praised in the hymns of the Nayanar saint Appar.
Its lingam, like that of the big temple, is held to be swayambhu, self-manifested rather than installed.
