A Vishnu temple of about 1.5 acres in Mylapore, Chennai, counted among the 108 Abhimana Kshetrams of the Vaishnava tradition and revered as the birthplace of the Alvar poet-saint Peyalvar. It is administered by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments board, and its very old temple tank was desilted for the first time in 2016.

Lakshmi is said to have come to the hermitage of sage Bhrigu after the churning of the ocean of milk and to have been accepted as his daughter Bhargavi, whom the presiding deity then married; the saint Peyalvar is held to have been found in the temple's Manikairavam well.
