A Krishna temple in Alappuzha district believed to have been built in the fifteenth century by the Chembakasserry ruler Pooradam Thirunal Devanarayanan Thampuran, where the deity is worshipped in the charioteer form of Parthasarathy. It is famous throughout Kerala for its daily palpayasam offering.
A sage who was Krishna in disguise beat the local king at chess and claimed rice doubled on each square of the board, a debt no granary could settle, which is why the temple has served payasam to devotees ever since.
