A temple of nearly five hundred years standing in the centre of Alappuzha town, attributed to King Devanarayana of Chembakassery and built in old Kerala style with an open-roofed sanctum; its cracked idol was replaced with one of Rajarajeswari on 16 July 1962.
The goddess is said to have appeared to the king in a dream and travelled home with him, then halted at a jasmine garden where his umbrella could not be lifted, marking the spot she had chosen.
