One of the oldest Gowda Saraswat Brahmin temples anywhere, raised at Purakkad in Alappuzha district about four hundred years ago by families who left Goa under Portuguese pressure to convert and were granted land by the Raja of Chembakassery. The temple rises about 29 m and keeps Krishna Janmashtami, Kartika Purnima and Navaratri.
