History & significance

A Shiva temple in Kollam city completed in the 11th century, its teak sanctum housing Shiva facing west and Parvati as Anandavally facing east. It is counted among the 108 principal Shiva temples of Kerala, and its ten-day festival falls in the month of Meenam.

Sthala katha — the legend

Folklore credits the installation of the lingam here to the sage Parashurama.
