A goddess temple close to the centre of Thiruvananthapuram whose deity is understood both as Bhadrakali and as Kannagi, the heroine of the Tamil epic Cilappatikaram. It is best known for the Attukal Pongala, a mass offering cooked by women that draws enormous crowds each year.
Tradition holds that the goddess appeared as a radiant girl to the head of the Mulluveettil family at the Killi river, vanished, and then came to him in a dream directing him to consecrate her in a sacred grove at a spot she marked with three lines.
