A Murugan temple on the bank of the Hanumannathi at Ayikudi, raised over the samadhi of the Brahmin ascetic Mugura Bhakthar. The area lay under Travancore until 1947 and the temple has been managed by the Thiruvadhankur royal family for about a century and a half; its roof of coconut and palm leaf was replaced around 1931.
The image is said to have been found in the Mallam river by a devotee named Mallan, and the child Murugan is believed to come down to the river steps to share payasam with the other children.
