History & significance

The principal temple of Sivakasi, with a five-tiered gopuram some 110 feet high and a gold-plated vimana over the north-facing sanctum; its ten-day Panguni and Chithirai Pongal festivals are the town's largest, and the temple figures in accounts of the 1899 Sivakasi riots.
