One of the most prominent Mariamman temples in South India, at Bannari near Sathyamangalam in the Erode district foothills. Its Kundam festival in Panguni draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and is marked by a local holiday across the district.
Herders are said to have noticed a cow letting down her milk each day beneath a vengai tree, and on digging there found a self-manifested form of the goddess.
