A rock temple in the Chauthan region of Pauri Garhwal, dated to the 9th or 10th century and held to have been raised by Maharaja Prithu in memory of his father Bindu. The original structure with its rock-cut images was pulled down in October 2017 to make way for a new building; an annual fair is still held here on Vaikuntha Chaturdashi.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
Villagers hold that the Pandavas built the temple in a single night during their exile, or else that the divine architect Vishwakarma raised it.
