History & significance

A rare 9th-century temple to the sun god in Almora district, built by the Katyuri king Katarmalla and surrounded by 44 smaller shrines. It is a Monument of National Importance protected under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act of 1958.
