A tall timber-and-stone tower at Chehni in the Banjar valley, about 350 years old and known as the Bhagwati temple for the goddess shrine it holds. It belongs to the wider Himachali tradition of village goddess cults and is celebrated for having withstood Himalayan earthquakes.
Local lore holds that the tower was the fortified seat of a ruler remembered as Queen Chaini, from whom the village takes its name.
