History & significance

One of the 108 Shiva temples of Kerala and an important shrine of the former Cochin Kingdom, with a circular sanctum and a square namaskara mandapam. Before the agrarian reforms it drew an annual income of roughly 24 tons of paddy from extensive landholdings.

Sthala katha — the legend

The sage Parashurama is said to have installed the Shiva image here in the Treta Yuga.
