Cheruvally, Kottayam district, Kerala · 9.5177°, 76.7639°
A Bhadrakali temple in Cheruvally village, Kanjirappally taluk, some 35 km south-east of Kottayam, reckoned to be at least a thousand years old. A subsidiary Judge Ammavan shrine was added in 1978.
The Judge Ammavan shrine honours a Travancore judge who condemned his own innocent nephew and then sought his own execution; his restless spirit is said to have troubled the place until the shrine was raised to appease him.
