History & significance

A shore temple to Shiva on the Gulf of Khambhat coast at Gopnath, described as nearly seven hundred years old and flying two flags for its Mahadev and Vishnu shrines. A fort of the ruler of Gohilwad also stands at the site.

Sthala katha — the legend

The devotional poet Narsinh Mehta is said to have had his decisive spiritual experience at this Shiva temple some five centuries ago.
